The Sociology Graduate Student Travel Committee is comprised of five
sociology graduate students, one from each of the five cohorts in the
program, who have elected to participate in this committee for a two-year
term. As a committee, our primary purpose is to facilitate financial
travel awards for our students presenting at and participating in
conferences and workshops, both nationally and internationally.
We are extremely fortunate in that the Sociology Department and Graduate School allocate annual funding targeted towards helping us achieve this goal. With this financial support, our students are able to participate in diverse professional development opportunities that they would otherwise be unable to attend due to financial constraints. As a committee, we have developed a series of guidelines and funding priorities to adjudicate the award process based on two specific aims: to maximize the productivity of our students, and to facilitate networking opportunities that aid the job search process.
In an effort to inform graduate students about these guidelines and priorities as well as the process by which we award travel grants, we have developed the resources contained in this webpage. Students can use this information to facilitate successful communication with the Committee members regarding award applications and to facilitate timely reimbursement for student travel awards. If you have any questions at any point in this process, please don't hestiate to contact a member of the Sociology Graduate Student Travel Committee.
