The Department of Sociology, University Park campus, invites applications for a tenure-track position in the area of Police Organization, Community Policing and Police Behavior to begin August, 2009. Candidates may apply at the Associate or Professor level. We are interested in a scholar with a strong record of empirical research and publication in these areas as well as a strong record of successfully funded research. The position is a joint appointment with Penn State’s Center for Research on Justice and Safety (CRJS) and the Department of Sociology. The successful candidate will serve as the Director of CRJS and liaison between the Justice and Safety Institute (JASI) and the Department of Sociology.

The Department invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position starting in August of 2008. The area of research specialization is open, although we are especially interested in scholars who focus on policing or the sociology of law. Candidates are expected to complete the Ph.D. in Sociology or another relevant social or behavioral science by the time of appointment. They also must demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and show significant potential for research through published articles in major journals or unpublished work that shows promise.
CLJ is a multidisciplinary, tenure-granting unit within the Department of Sociology that offers bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees. Faculty members’ work spans a range of topics in criminology and criminal justice and is enhanced by the presence of the Penn State Social Science Research Institute and the Pennsylvania Commission on Sentencing (a state agency located on campus).
