Exceptional Sociology and Crime, Law, and Justice majors may be eligible for one of several awards offered by the Department of Sociology every spring. Eligible students are notified by the department via e-mail and are encouraged to apply by completing the online application available here
Recipients of the Departmental awards are recognized at an Outstanding Students Award Luncheon with faculty and staff in April.
Some funding is also available through the College of the Liberal Arts every year. Students must complete an enrichment application and/ or a scholarship application to be considered for these opportunities at this site.

The Department of Sociology and Crime, Law, and Justice hosted a Recognition Ceremony for our undergraduate students. The presentation of awards took place on Monday, April 6, 2009 at the Alumni Hall in the Hub-Roberson Center. Awards were presented by Associate Deaprtment Head, John Krammer and Undergraduate Officer Sal Orpesa of the Sociology and Crime, Law, and Justice programs.
Bonnie Smith Marshall Public Service Award
Recipient: Erin Carroll
The Bonnie Smith Marshall Public Service Award was established in 2001. This award recognizes outstanding achievement by an undergraduate Sociology or Crime, Law, and Justice major who exhibits a commitment to public service through volunteer work, social action, paid employment, internships, or other activities that improve the quality of life on campus or in larger community.
Major Charles Dennis McKee Memorial Scholarship
Recipient: Tatiana Gochez-Kerr
In the spring of 1999, his mother, Beulah L. McKee, and his sister, Marjorie G. McKee, established a scholarship in honor of Major Charles Dennis McKee. Major McKee was a 1970 graduate of the Law Enforcement and Corrections Program who lost his life in the Pan-Am disaster at Lockenbie, Scotland, on December 21, 1988.
Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI Scholarship
Recipient: Mark Schimmel
In 1990, the Administration of Justice Program was selected one of the six J. Edgar Hoover Memorial $2,500 scholarship sponsored by the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI, Inc. The universities receiving the 1990 awards were chosen by Society members elected randomly from each of the six national regions's. In the Mid-Atlantic Region, the member selector was Mr. Lloyed W. Arms, Sr., whose son Lloyed Jr., graduated from the Pennsylvania State University and served twenty years as a special agent of the FBI. Mr. Arms designated Penn State as his choice for the award.
Volk and Marsh Crime, Law, and Justice APG Scholarships

The Volk and Marsh Crime, Law, and Justice APG Scholarship was established in 2006 by Ross Volk and Mary O'Neill Marsh. This scholarship is to provide recognition and financial assistance to outstanding undergraduate students majoring or planning to major in Crime, Law, and Justice.
Distinguished Graduating Seniors
Recipients: Michael Loggia (CLJ), Bryn Sfetsios (SOC)
The Distinguished Graduating Senior Award is presented to a Crime, Law, and Justice and Sociology major who has a grade point average of 3.75 or above and a strong record of accomplishments outside the classroom (relevant activities include education abroad, internships, working as a teaching or research assistant, community service, and volunteer activities on campus).
Eleanor Hoffer Kyle Scholarship
Recipients: Ashley Gromis
The Eleanor Hoffer Kyle Scholarship was established in 1999. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide recognition and financial assistance to an outstanding undergraduate student in Sociology.
