Sociology majors and minors can strive for membership in the Penn State chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta, the international sociology honor society. To be eligible for membership, majors/minors must be a junior or senior with an overall grade point average of 3.00 as well as a 3.00 grade point average in the sociology major or minor. Qualified applicants must also have completed four sociology courses. Crime, Law, and Justice majors can strive for membership in the Penn State chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma, the National Criminal Justice Honor Society. Currently, to be eligible for membership, Crime, Law, and Justice majors must have completed a minimum of four Crime, Law, and Justice courses. In terms of their academic performance, qualified applicants must have an overall grade point average of 3.20 as well as a 3.20 average in the Crime, Law, and Justice major. The Crime, Law, and Justice major has an active undergraduate student organization called the Justice Association (J.A.). Students are encouraged to join the organization and get involved in the many activities that are available throughout the academic year. These activities include faculty/student mixers, nationally known guest speakers who discuss topics related to the criminal justice profession, and trips to prisons and agencies.
